Green Houses

Country House in Zamora by Javier de Antón

The architects of the company Javier de Anton presented an interesting project. This is a real country house, located in a small provincial center in northwest Spain. House area occupies 110 sq.m. The plot is divided into two parts, one planted with vineyards, and the second covered by deciduous trees (chestnut and walnut) and evergreen pines and oaks. The house is located exactly in the center of the plot. The building is a simple one-piece box with one open space inside. Here you’ll find the living room, dining room and kitchen. Huge glass doors offer magnificent views of nature. At both ends of the building there are two bedrooms and bathrooms. It’s stunning place to be alone with nature.

The Floating House Project by Robert Harvey Oshatz: Fennell Residence

Robert Harvey Oshatz is probably one of those architects who deserves a separate category on every design blog. His style is easily recognizable and described by himself as organic architecture and green sustainable architecture. This is his last project after the Tree House and this time it’s a floating house located on the picturesque riverside. The huge glass wall faces the river and frames the sunset, making the house a very romantic place. Wooden interior with curvilinear ceiling and walls contributes to the overall experience of warmth and coziness. This house is guaranteed to make it’s inhabitants happy and enjoy their time there.

Crossbox House by CG Architects

CG Architects designed this house composed of two container clad laid crosswise in Pont Péan, France. The home is elegantly balanced and maintains a small footprint. The modern residence is clad in a low-maintenance material for a sleek finish, while the inside is simply furnished and bright. The first volume is grey while the other one is of green colour. Near the house you will find one more building made of wood. This combination of colours looks very natural. There is a cozy living area inside the house. The interior is rather bright. Living in this house you will also have a space for planting greens by means of the green roof. The house reminds of the previously reviewed Bright Container House by Jure Kotnic Architect.

Solar Idea House by Hugh Joyce

Hugh Joyce sent us these photos of his recently completed project of the house renovation. When he bought this house in Richmond it was in a very poor condition – basically it was a brick box full of garbage that once was it’s interior. The idea was to re-green the house to make an interactive learning model exploring the most of available green building techniques. Large Kyocera Solar Panel produces enough energy to drop the power bill to $20 a month. There are water recovery systems for irrigation and air filter and purifier and this is just the taste of the Solar Idea House’s technologies, the full list is here. Implementing even a few of those green strategies can save you a valuable amount of money and minimize the impact to the environment.

Bryan Bowen Architects’ Net-Zero Energy House in Frazer, Colorado

This is probably one of the most featured and green houses we reviewed yet. We used to think of a contemporary house as of the one with unusual architecture and crazy amount of swimming pools. Well this house is about the latest technology serving to create a warm and inspiring home for a single family. Active and passive eco technologies include the thickly insulated multi-layer envelope, high efficiency fiberglass windows, LED lighting, Hunter Douglas automatic windows coverings and the Eco Dashboard real-time monitoring system. Apart from the regular living areas the house has a home gym, huge swimming pool and a two-car garage; moreover the house is already equipped by two electric vehicles. A bunch of solar panels on the roof produce 17kW of energy, which is enough to power up both the house and the electro mobiles.
