Flair Collection by Angeletti Ruzza - Welcoming Yet Confidential
This bed is welcoming indeed – don’t you imagine when just looking at it how you would fall on that huge soft mattress and gently fall into the sweetest dreams to wake up fresh and rested? Well that’s the thing I think of since i’m writing this on friday. This bed can easily fit in literally into any light bedroom with it’s simple square shapes enhanced with diamond pattern. The base is available with the same pattern, or smooth. You can find this collection by Angeletti Ruzza in the Poltrona Frau Notte 2010 catalogue or on their web site.

A Home That You Make

Sometimes when you move into a new place it does not feels that it is your home for days, or weeks, or month… Its hard to catch the moment when you stop missing your old place and start to feel relaxed. What makes you grow roots and start feeling home? Surely there are many things, but in the first place it's the interior that you create and the things that surround you.

The modest flat that you can see below is a home for a family of five artistic people, that like to create. Mother and daughter created all those nice knit things from sheets and cushions to rugs. Father of this family is a carpenter and he made most of the furniture – just take a look of this natural newspaper table made of a large slice of wood. Some of the things like the chair and floor lamp are still from Ikea, but still this home is a good proof that cozy home is not about the cost at all.

Stair design ideas for your home by Scale Nilur

Stair design is very important because it has to meet a lot of requirements. Depending on the size of your residence the staircase can have wide or narrow steps and can be steep or not. If your place is not quite as big as celebrity’s house it might be a good idea to use the space under the stairs, for example by installing shelves like we discussed in this post. But the dimensions are not the trickiest side of stair design. Poorly looking staircase can make your home look ugly as well as the professionally designed stairs can fit in and contribute to the interior seamlessly, or even become a major trait, like the following stairs by professional designer Scale Nilur.

Highly stylized custom furniture by Jory Brigham

Jory Brigham began woodworking with his father at a very early age. He learned a lot and has reached incredible heights in craftsmanship and that allows him to concentrate on his unique style without compromises. His original custom stands are really of a perfect quality – every line to the last inch and every detail is clean and accurate; only the best timber is utilized. Take a look at the stand with a crack on the top surface – I don’t know if it’s done on purpose or is it a cleverly hidden defect but I think that it looks great. Overall style is easily recognizable and organic – some might not like that there are too many details, but Home Reviews is not the case :) Check out Jory’s webpage for more great things he makes.

Modest single family beach house by BDA Architects

This house has been built to replace the old owner’s building on the site. The client’s wish was to make a two storey opened area connecting the living room and the garden and it was successfully fulfilled. The house has been planned and constructed with effectiveness and economy in mind – there is a water tank to collect and reuse water, a lot of opening windows for good ventilation, mostly light and practical finishings used for all surfaces to reduce sun heating. This is a very practical residence for one family, plus there are guest bedroom and bathroom on the main level.

Unique contemporary Cubo house in Mexico

This beautiful modern house was built it Juarez, Mexico by Arquitectura en Movimiento. It’s name “The Cubo” sounds absolutely natural when you see it – the house has strict and sober exterior with sharp geometric shapes, actually reminding a couple of intersecting cubes. The house has a lot of big windows, most of which a looking towards the back yard since the building is U-shaped, so it is very light inside. Generally, the Cubo’s interior is very modern, practical and well-planned. In our opinion it looks more friendly and comfortable inside than outside and would be perfect for a young progressive family with two kids. There is also a little pound in the middle of composition. We would probably prefer to have Jacuzzi there, but it would not look as harmonic as this pound does.

Compact bookshelves built into the staircase

This is a very good example of effective space managing that looks great. Book and CD shelves are piled on each other and make up a steep and very compact staircase. There are two rows of shelves for each foot –that’s why it look more like a ladder, but it is actually very comfortable. You wouldn’t have to climb this thing; the consequent steps are on favorable height. The creators thought of safety and attached side nets and metal bars to prevent user from falling.

The idea is very interesting in general – you can put literally anything on those shelves, starting from your family pictures to plants or something else that you have to store somewhere. Even if you don’t need the staircase in your flat, you can still think of building such wall of piled shelves instead of a regular cupboard. Apart from keeping your stuff it looks good and visually partitions your room to multiple zones.

Ugly ex-contemporary chairs

This is a first post in our brand new blog and to start with lets imagine how all the modern things we are going to review here will look… suppose in a hundred years. To do that better, take a look at this grizzly-chair that has been once presented to the US president, and so obviously was considered very cool. Nowadays only a few people would put anything like this in their living room, not only because of it’s archaic design, but also because it’s made of murdered bears and doesn’t fit into the green concept. We still don’t know weither it is made of one mutant bear with 6 paws, or two handicapped three-pawed bears. The second chair has a similar idea and even though it’s not as old as the first one, it would probably still shock the witnessing Greenpeace participant to death.
