Furniture made of cork by Jonathan Honvoh & Rodrigue Strouwen
What can be done of simple cork? Usually the biggest benefit of cork is our memories of good taste of wine. But Jonathan Honvoh and Rodrigue Strouwen, two space designers, have invented another use of this simple thing. Their work is their own poetry - both fun and offbeat. Apart from the design of space in the strict sense, “TwoDesigners” make objects based on the connection of different elements. They propose to make furniture of two elements made of cork and joined by metal hoop. The use of cork has several advantages. The elastic properties of cork allows producing the joins without screws or adhesives. Each block is reconstructed from waste production of wine corks, so it represents an economy of raw material. Elements of interior made of cork are multifunctional and modular.

OutsideIN House by Fernanda Vuilleumier Arquitectura

Fernanda Vuilleumier Arquitectura has completed the OutsideIN house in Puerto Natales, Chile. It looks a little rough due to use of simple raw materials such as concrete, stone, V-shaped wooden beams. But panoramic windows add some warmth and originality to the exterior.  The sloped roof was created to protect the dwelling from the strong Northwest Winds that can reach up to 60 mph. Moreover, the roof shape also provides rainwater collection that can be used for gardening and irrigation. Back Trombe walls allows to use passive solar energy for heating, cooling, and day lighting. And as we can see from the title of the house, one of the interesting feature of this house was decision to bring the materials from the out side in.

Elementary Eugenia House by Joao Diniz

Eugenia House is a unique versatile residence project by Joao Diniz. The so-called primitive or elementary cottage is built on the sloping site of 1650 sq meters, but the building itself occupies only 86 sq. meters. To make construction more affordable and open view to the river the house has single slope curved roof supported by metal pipes from the old sewage systems. The roof at the same time is a back wall. The interior of this compact home is very well planned and features a big living room with kitchen on the first floor and a cozy bedroom on the second. Sloping ceiling focuses and connects the interior to the beauty of surrounding groves. The exterior is decorated with unique lace reminding of African tribes - this little twist completes the house.

Contemporary Summer House by Pacific Environments

Located in the hills above Buckleton Bay, Matakana, New Zealand, the project, known as Bourke House, was realized by Pacific Environment. The architects have tried to create a structure which is minimally influenced the environment and thus would have the most comprehensive view of the ocean. The house features not only glass façade, but it was also equipped with glass sliding doors, which fill the house with fresh air and allow to move freely between the inside and the outside spaces. In addition, the house has some eco facilities: systems for collecting and recycling rainwater, solar hot-water. Neutral colors, red wood accents cheer up and give individuality to the interior.

The St. Louis House by Christian Pottgiesser: the Design Idea for Small Spaces

This what can be called a real doll house. The designer Christian Pottgiesser managed to do everything possible to create a cozy apartment in the tiny space of a grand total of 35 sq m. Located in the 10th arrondissement of Paris, France this charming St. Louis house delights with a sneaky staircase within the wall and a hidden portal within the ceiling over the kitchen table. All the private space in the dwelling is composed in the unique way. The main living area is in the centre of the space surrounded by a large closed off corridor on three sides. The warm colour palette is the best variant to warm up the natural light that enters this home and creates a sense of coziness and piece. The whole solution is very creative.

The Modern Castle in Vermont, USA

This interesting unusual house can be compared with real medieval fortress. McLeod residence was built in a beautiful place in Vermont, which is considered one of the most comfortable and quiet corners of the nature of the USA. The authors of the project are specialists from John Mcleod Architect. The house has very solid construction and although it has three floors, it seems very reliable. In part, this feeling is created due to the heavy dark façade and traditional materials such as ground concrete slab, plaster walls, exposed wood joists, cork and so on. Interesting feature is the roof of the house that is covered with green grass, where you can see almost all the local herbs and flowers. The interiors were decorated in the style of country houses, which makes them very cozy and welcoming.

Spring Interior Ideas

At last spring came! Of course, it is a reason to update your interior. And nothing creates a mood in the interior like the color! One of the most important symbols of this beautiful season is rich green grass. Add color accents with posters, wall stickers, or textiles. Paintings, curtains or posters could be easily replaced, and therefore, you can safely experiment. And don?t forget about flower motives. However trite it is the flowers always fill an apartment with vitality and attract the eye. So, decorate your house with indoor plants or bouquets of cut flowers. By the way, the combination of light green, olive green and white gives a feeling of freshness and spaciousness. And this is what we are waiting from a spring interior.
