Unusual V-House by GAAGA

Architects from GAAGA designed V-House in Leiden, the Netherlands. This residence was called due to its unusual geometry. The roof of the house is made ??of wood and shaped like the letter V, that looks quite original. The upper level has a living room, dining room and kitchen. This part of the house features an open plan with high ceilings (from 2.8 to 4.1 meters, depending on the angle of the roof). On the ground floor there is a hall, bedrooms and a bathroom. It also provides access to the garden. Spaciousness and natural materials (such as stone and wood) help to create a welcoming cozy atmosphere in the house.

Futuristic and Modern Dupli.Casa by J. MAYER H. Architects

This private residence on the river Neckar is  a perfect example of how different shapes and materials could combine in one project. Dupli Casa, designed by J. Mayer H. Architects, is located in Ludwigsburg, Germany. The residence looks futuristic due to its original geometric shapes and white facade. Extraordinary design of the main structure flows into the base and blends harmoniously with the other functional extensions. What is interesting, the architecture of the building is based on the footprint of the previous house, built in 1884. Concrete walls and wooden floors create connection between the modern and the old, the natural and the man-made and the inside and outside. The residence consists of tree levels and there are lots of panoramic windows which provide breathtaking views.

Miami Residence on a Long Narrow Site by BDA Architecture

The people?s desire to live closer to the ocean sometimes incites them to build houses on the most unsuitable places. For example, this unusual house in Australia was built on a long narrow site, which occupies 10m wide x 50m deep across the road from the ocean. The authors of the project are designers from BDA Architecture. Undoubtedly, the plot size influenced the layout of the house. The front part includes a garage and entrance at ground level, a living area is located on the first floor and a master suite - on the second floor. Two terraces provide beautiful view. Courtyard with pool is very small, but functional, cozy and comfortable as it is safely protected from the winds.

Villa Hellearmen: Modern Facade Design by Tommie Wilhelmsen

Villa Hellearmen, built by Norwegian architect Tommie Wilhelmsen, is an excellent example of how one project could combine several different materials and also play with shapes and lines, so it looks harmonious and natural ways. The villa is located in Stavengere, Norway. The house has an unusual shape; the complexity is determined by a variety of volumes. The most contemporary exterior element is wooden part, which makes house so striking and individual. Inside the house you can also see a combination of curved and straight forms, as well as plenty of wooden surfaces. The interesting feature is glass window in the floor of the second level, through which you can watch what is happening in the living room. By the way, the author of this project was previously presented in the blog with his Delen Cabin.

Modest C2 Yamanashi House in the Forest

City life is becoming tenser because of the large number of people and the continuous deterioration of ecological environment. That is why more and more people are trying to build a house as far away from civilization as possible. Today we review one more unusual house, which was created by specialists of Japanese studio Studio Curiosity and built almost in the forest. The house, named C2 Yamanashi, has a clear and a little abstract volume, which follows the slope of the plot. One of the walls of the house is almost entirely glazed and offers a complete overview of the forest, while the others are almost completely blank. The interiors are not too large, but seem more spacious due to the fact that designers used so popular in the Japan minimalistic style.

Point Dume Residence by Griffin Enright Architects

Point Dume Residence is a very unusual and spectacular house, which is interesting both for its exterior, and very bright and modern interiors. The house was designed by the Griffin Enright Architects in Malibu, where each house can be called a work of art. House construction, which seems unwelcoming and massive from the street, made of concrete. The house even resembles a medieval castle. But huge fragments of glazing, glass doors leading into the courtyard and open space for outdoor recreation soften the harsh look from the opposite side of the facade. There is large and comfortable swimming pool in front of the house, which is also framed by a stone slab.
