Island house

Waterfront property on Lopez Island by David Vandervort Architects

Located on Lopez Island, Washington, this residence was designed for modern living close to nature. The authors of the project became David Vandervort Architects. As we can see on the pictures below, the residence is surrounded by beautiful trees, which were carefully saved during the construction. The project consists of main house and the studio which houses his and hers art spaces.  The studio is connected to the house via an arcade which also serves as the main approach to the house. High connection with nature is realized due to lots of windows, which overview the forest and water. Wood was used as in the interior and exterior design, so the Lopez Island residence looks very warm and welcoming.

Unusual Island House in Korea by IROJE KHM Architects

Island House is built on the Han River in South Korea’s Kangwon-do prefecture.  This stunning residential complex runs over an area of over 700 square meters. Wonderful nature surroundings and features of the space led HyoManKim, of IROJE KHM Architects, to such an idea: Form of site = Form of architecture = Maximum efficiency of landscape. This house sits on the mountain area and provides a wide panoramic view of picturesque river. There is a unique stepped roof garden that creates the sloped ceiling lines. This design is contextual to its surrounding site with the composition of irregular polygonal shaped concrete mass and metal mesh. The angled steel and glass façade is designed in such a way to maximize the views when one is sitting inside the house and enjoys views of the landscape beyond and between different parts of the house.

The Clingstone House by Lovering Wharton: an Unusual Mansion on the Island

Clingstone, an unusual, 103-year-old mansion in Rhode Island's Narragansett Bay survives through the love and hard work of family and friends. This house on an island looks straight out of a fairy tale. And 79 year old Boston Architect Henry Wood is its owner. The Clingstone House designed by J.S. Lovering Wharton with artist William Trost Richards probably got its name because it “clings” to a little rocky island. This mysterious dwelling with a 360-degree view of the ocean has a certain history. Three storeyed tall, the Clingstone House has a large centre hall, ten bedrooms and 23 rooms totally.
