Does this look like an old ugly oven? Well that’s not it anymore. This oven has been redesigned by students from the University of Cincinnati's DAAP design school. It doesn’t cook anymore, but it transforms to a nice and extremely comfortable lounge. It accommodates a single person and is perfect to watch TV or read the book. When closed the side drawer hides custom made cushions with cinnamon swirl pattern. Unfortunately the only existing oven lounge was sold from Etsy recently, but who stops you to take this idea and make your own unique lounge?

Blue is usually a cold and unwelcoming color, but this large luxury house in Dionisis, Attica is an exception. Its bluish illumination harmonizes with the night starry sky and gives a feeling of calmness and serenity. To some people it might remind of the ubiquitous Tron movie, but the house was built before the movie premiere. Large two-storey tall windows connect interior with the patio that has a large swimming pool and the entertainment area. The contemporary interior of this house slightly insinuates that it was created by a Greek designer. We especially favor the unusual staircase with stunning wooden handrail behind the glass wall that complements to the living room’s interior.

These great houses were presented by A-Cero Modular quite a while ago, in 2010, but we simply couldn’t leave them unviewed. A-Cero is a world-wide famous Spanish design studio, specializing in urban architecture and design. Unlike the huge luxury houses they built for the La-Finca residential area, modular department’s houses are much smaller and easier to construct. Just like any other modular homes they are built of prefabricated blocks. There are multiple configurations, from the cheapest two room and one storey version at 84,000 euros, to the most expensive Cubic that has two storey and reminds of the luxury Spanish villas the most and comes at 252,000 euros. The earlier presented version is called the black house and has black glossy facade thanks to the black windows glass and aluminum panels. It looks extremely cool, but newer white house is more welcoming and extraordinary with its black and white contrastive exterior. For more information visit this website.

This contemporary luxury residence is placed on the steep hill slope facing the pacific ocean. The total area of the house is 6500 sq. ft. and almost a half of it (2500 sq. ft.) is a open-air living space with multiple entertainment areas, Jacuzzi, barbeque and ocean views, which is great considering the Costa Rican weather conditions. The private indoor facilities include master’s bedroom, junior bedroom, two guest bedrooms and caretaker’s quarters, each with separate bathroom. It’s perfect to accommodate a company of eight on vacation.

Hugh Joyce sent us these photos of his recently completed project of the house renovation. When he bought this house in Richmond it was in a very poor condition – basically it was a brick box full of garbage that once was it’s interior. The idea was to re-green the house to make an interactive learning model exploring the most of available green building techniques. Large Kyocera Solar Panel produces enough energy to drop the power bill to $20 a month. There are water recovery systems for irrigation and air filter and purifier and this is just the taste of the Solar Idea House’s technologies, the full list is here. Implementing even a few of those green strategies can save you a valuable amount of money and minimize the impact to the environment.

This is probably one of the most featured and green houses we reviewed yet. We used to think of a contemporary house as of the one with unusual architecture and crazy amount of swimming pools. Well this house is about the latest technology serving to create a warm and inspiring home for a single family. Active and passive eco technologies include the thickly insulated multi-layer envelope, high efficiency fiberglass windows, LED lighting, Hunter Douglas automatic windows coverings and the Eco Dashboard real-time monitoring system. Apart from the regular living areas the house has a home gym, huge swimming pool and a two-car garage; moreover the house is already equipped by two electric vehicles. A bunch of solar panels on the roof produce 17kW of energy, which is enough to power up both the house and the electro mobiles.

This Liquid Like Bar Stool was created by American artist and designer Michael Stolworthy by the original production method – sand casting. The stool has unique curvy geometry without any seams and to make it look even more like a fluid substance it’s polished to glossiness. There are four versions of the stool: chrome, gloss black, wood finish and red anodized aluminum. Contemporary eye-catching look and shiny finish would complement well to many modern bar interiors. For example I believe that the serous bar stool would look great in the La Nova night club inspired by ice caverns that we have recently reviewed.
